This work, which had a wide social impact at the time, allowed the then Vila de Fafe to supply an electrical network for public service. Due to its historical and cultural interest, as an important landmark of the electrification process in the northwest of Portugal, and given the good condition of the equipment, the Municipality of Fafe, the owner, decided to musealize the facilities and equipment, constituting a regional museum. of electricity, the first of its kind in the country.
The entire system of hydraulic use of the plant is made known. The water was collected from the river through the charging system and conducted through the feed channel to the charging chamber. In the charging chamber, which acts as a filter, the water is freed from dirt and led through the underground penstock to the turbine. The turbine takes advantage of the force of falling water to transform mechanical energy into electrical energy. Once turbined, the water is returned to the river.
