Atelier Túllio Victorino
Cultural space

Túllio da Costa Victorino was born on December 14, 1896, in Cernache do Bonjardim. He attended the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon, later moving to the School of Fine Arts in Porto.

Ordered to be built by his father (a cork dealer) on the occasion of the establishment of the Republic, the property follows “in a modest way the revivalists of the beginning of the 20th century, as is evident in the double windows of the turret, crowned by a Greek painted by Túllio himself Victorino or in the interior doors surmounted by a horseshoe arch and surrounded by Mozarabic tiles, or even in the iron structure used to support the text and in the large window of the hall where the painter usually worked”. It is part of a neo-Arab architectural style. The atelier served as a place of work and, at the same time, residence.

Túllio Victorino’s works can be found in several national Museums, namely: Contemporary and Municipal Art, in Lisbon; Machado de Castro, in Coimbra; José Malhoa, in Caldas da Rainha; Grão Vasco, in Viseu; Abbot of Baçal, in Bragança; Guard Museum; from Castelo Branco and Figueira da Foz; Ovar Scout Museum; Tourism Commission of Tomar.

He died at his home on March 23, 1969.

Additional notes

The building later fell into disrepair, being recently recovered by the Municipality of Sertã, which turned it into a cultural space, being given the name “Espaço Cultural Túllio Victorino” and inaugurated on September 12, 2008.

The building is classified as Municipal Heritage.
